Description

OSI (Open Society Institute) has generously offered to sponsor a number of participants from developing and transition countries for attendance at the OAI 5 Workshop. The scholarships will cover air fares, accommodation, and workshop fees (excluding cost-bearing social events) in order to enable participation at OAI 5 for worthy candidates who might not otherwise have been able to attend.

Criteria

Eligible applicants for the OSI Grants will be:

  • A participant in an established OA-related project (preferably involving some technical element)
  • Employed at an institution in one of the OSI-supported countries.
Application

Applicants should fill out the application form and send it by email to: support-osi-grant@cern.ch

Applications should be sent by March 5th  2007.
Successful applicants will be informed by March 12th 2007.

Successful applicants are required to purchase their own travel tickets for economy return flights and to communicate their arrival and departure days to the CERN-OAI organisation team who will make accommodation reservations on their behalf. Refunds will be made during the workshop upon presentation of passport and air tickets. Bank details of the participant’s institution for electronic transfer should be brought for this purpose as cash refunds cannot be made. The hotel room (including breakfast) will be paid direct by the CERN-OAI organisation team but any additional costs incurred at the hotel (such as phone calls, etc) will be the responsibility of the participant.

Participants will need to present themselves on April 18th to the CERN-OAI organisation team where workshop fees will be waived and reimbursement of costs can be arranged.

Administration

Successful applicants will receive reimbursement for accommodation costs for 17th - 22nd April, economy return air travel to Geneva, and free registration for all three days of the OAI 5 Workshop. Vouchers will be awarded for use in the CERN restaurant for all meals (breakfast, lunch and evening meals) from 17th - 22nd April.

Accommodation and registration will be organised by the OAI 5 Organisation Committee on behalf of successful applicants.

Recipients of the OSI Grants will be responsible for making their own air travel bookings and paying for their tickets. The travel expenses will be reimbursed to the successful applicant's institution.

The workshop takes place at CERN - the European Organization for Nuclear Research, which is in Switzerland. Applicants are responsible for making any necessary visa arrangements for travel to Switzerland (and via France if necessary for flights). CERN can supply confirmation of registration for the workshop, but not a letter of invitation. The confirmation of registration can be transmitted electronically to successful applicants who can then present it at their Swiss Embassy in support of any visa application.
